'NSW SES is one reason why I decided to pursue Nursing. I love helping and supporting people in the time of need.'
My role within the SES is Team Leader. I assist in providing a variety of training to our members.
I am the Team Leader during call-outs, this role involves coordinating the team with tasks and ensuring all members are safe before and during the job.
I am also a Vertical Operator. This role involves attending rescue operations where a person requires assistance from falling from heights.
Before I joined the NSW SES, I had so much spare time and wanted to give back. I new someone who volunteered within the SES and I enjoyed listening to her stories.
I also choose the NSW SES as I wanted to give back to the community in times of need.
There is so many things I love about being apart of NSW SES. One story, was going out in the pouring rain to help a resident's house that was damaged from a storm. The homeowner was so appreciative and grateful for our support during this time.
I also love how the SES members from my unit slowly become a second family.
I have obtained many skills within NSW SES. These skills are storm and water, Flood Rescue Level 1, chainsaw, map reading and rescue skills in Vertical Rescue.
I have also develop skills in leading teams as well as skills in training and assessment.
NSW SES is an awesome organisation to be involved in. There are many skills that you will obtain and also different roles to suit individual peoples abilities. As a unit volunteer, you will attend weekly training nights to keep your skills up to date.
