Bermagui Unit
Just do it. You will meet lots of interesting people and be part of a group that helps people when they need it the most.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your role within NSW SES?
I am a Bank Manager for Horizon and have lived in Bermagui for about four years after moving from Bowral in the Southern Highlands.
My eldest son joined NSW SES a while ago and was commenting on how good it was and the friends he has made. After the fires on New Year’s Eve, I felt like I needed to do more. I saw NSW SES, did some research and thought I would be a good fit. I have since passed my probation and am now looking forward to helping our community.
Why did you join NSW SES?
To be able to give back to the community in time of need.
What is your favourite part about being a member of the NSW State Emergency Service?
Being part of a family that helps the local people and anyone else in need.
What are the various skills you have learnt along the way?
How to operate a radio, learning to throw ropes, and how to climb onto a roof with PPE gear. There is still so much more for me to learn.
What advice would you give to others that are thinking to join?
Just do it. You will meet lots of interesting people and be part of a group that helps people when they need it the most.
