Wagga Wagga Unit

I have been with NSW SES since 2016. Since joining I have moved, changed work, and gotten married.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role within NSW SES?

I have been with NSW SES since 2016. Since joining I have moved, changed work, and gotten married. I just love the people and the environment that comes with being a Member of the SES. I’ve been a Training Coordinator for two units, helping to grow our members in confidence and ability, which is something I really enjoy doing.

Why did you join NSW SES?

I was intrigued by the interest that my girlfriend (now wife) had with the Service. She spent a lot of time organising things for the unit and she suggested that I come along. I really had no idea what NSW SES did, and she made it sound fun, so I jumped in.

What is your favourite part about being a member of the NSW State Emergency Service?

Seeing people join their local unit for the first time – people who have never done anything like this before, and seeing them become proficient with a chainsaw, boat, truck, and in rescue techniques that save lives. I think at that point it is good to know we are becoming stronger as a community, building resilience, and helping people in times of need.

What are the various skills you have learnt along the way?

NSW SES offered me training in many areas including ropes, learning flood and land rescue techniques.

What advice would you give to others that are thinking to join?

Give the recruiting team a call or get online and grab an application to your local unit, they’ll be thrilled to have new people keen to learn and help the community!
