Willoughby - Lane Cove Unit
"It is one of the best things that I do with my life, and you will be glad that you took the first step to sign up as an SES volunteer."
I am the Unit Commander of Willoughby-Lane Cove Unit, which covers the local government areas of Willoughby City Council and Lane Cove Council. I was previously a member of North Sydney Unit.
As a second generation Australian, it is my way of giving something back to Australia, which has been very good to my family and I.
Additionally, I see it as a way of utilising the skills which I have developed over 16 years as an Army Reserve Legal Officer in a civilian sphere, for the good of my community.
The ability to help fellow Australians at their time of vulnerability is so rewarding.
The camaraderie amongst like-minded and giving individuals who collectively serve their community selflessly, and for the right reasons makes it all the more fulfilling.
Liaising with local government, emergency agencies, the media and other organisations.
The courses which I have attended have afforded me training in numerous practical skills which are useful outside of the SES. They range from participating in a rescue operation, flood boat rescue, storm and
water operations (including operating on roofs), map and navigation, land search, bushfire awareness.
The SES has something for everyone, whether it is within the field or operations streams, or a combination of both.
It is one of the best things that I do with my life, and you will be glad that you took the first step to sign up as an SES volunteer.
You will cherish the lifelong friends and experiences that you acquire along the way for years to come.
