Dennis joined the NSW SES a little later in life than some, volunteering with the Gunnedah Unit when he was 47 years old.
“I regret I didn’t join the organisation earlier than what I did. However, in saying this when I did join it was the right time in my life for me.”
Dennis Buck was awarded the Emergency Services Medal in 2016 for his contribution to training NSW State Emergency Service Volunteers over the last 15 years. Dennis is the Namoi Capability Unit Commander and a volunteer with the Gunnedah Unit.

Dennis has often been sent to other areas of Australia to help in emergency situations. In 2011 he went to North Queensland helping communities affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasi.
“Being able to make a difference to communities when there has been a disaster or assisting people who have been trapped in a road crash gives a great feeling of accomplishment.”
